According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Only 7 swine flu deaths, not 152, says WHO.
A member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) has dismissed claims that more than 150 people have died from swine flu, saying it has officially recorded only seven deaths around the world.
Vivienne Allan, from WHO’s patient safety program, said the body had confirmed that worldwide there had been just seven deaths – all in Mexico – and 79 confirmed cases of the disease.
“Unfortunately that [150-plus deaths] is incorrect information and it does happen, but that’s not information that’s come from the World Health Organisation,” Ms Allan told ABC Radio today.
“That figure is not a figure that’s come from the World Health Organisation and, I repeat, the death toll is seven and they are all from Mexico.”
Ms Allan said WHO had confirmed 40 cases of swine flu in the Americas, 26 in Mexico, six in Canada, two in Spain, two in Britain and three in New Zealand.
Ms Allan said it was difficult to measure how fast the virus was spreading.
She said a real concern would be if the flu virus manifested in a country where a person had had no contact with Mexico, and authorities were watching all countries for signs of that.

And then there is this….. who to believe?? There is a lot of conflicting info!
WHO says swine flu moving toward pandemic level
Apr 29th, 2009 | GENEVA — The World Health Organization says the swine flu outbreak is moving closer to becoming a pandemic.
WHO flu chief Dr. Keiji Fukuda told reporters on Wednesday that developments in the disease are moving the agency closer to raising its pandemic alert to phase 5, indicating widespread human-to-human transmission.
He said the health body was monitoring the situation but was not yet ready to move the pandemic alert level up from its current level of 4, which means it is being passed among people.
Phase 6 is the highest in the scale and is for a full-scale pandemic.
Fukuda said there was no evidence the virus was slowing down.
I see this as just another “miracle” performed by Obama. He saved the world from hurricanes and has now done the same for a flu epidemic. And he did it within his first historic 100 days!
Y’know they keep telling us not to panic, but I feel the need to stat panicking.
taggles: I love your incoherency!
Just more nonsense to take our attention away from the cr@ppy economy, North Korea, Iraq, Pakistan, Iran, the Taliban, Wall Street Welfare, etc….
The doubt we all express is in direct correlation to the MSM for its past transgressions. When you can no longer find clarity and objectivity in what is being reported the doubt factor increases even more so. Real or unreal? Believed or dismissed? Lies or truth? Who knows anymore. We seem to have come to rely on reporting done years after the actual event that digs out the facts long after they have faded into history.
I will be tuned to the Red Sox/Cleveland Indian game instead. My way of celebrating the first one hundred days of the greatest president ever in history of the US and for years to come!
He better not effect American Idol, I need to the results from last night’s voting. Why don’t the talking heads analyze the greatness of his speechifying before it starts. It would really save alot of time. Better yet, why doesn’t Obama just send out the TOTUS by itself with a computer generated voice?
This is from WHO. They are the who that I think are on first.

Is all this kinda like us needing to go buy plastic and masking tape after 9/11?
Thank you, corporate media. We couldn’t control the people without you.
Well, madamab, I have been afraid of crop-dusters well before 9/11. What is that stuff they’re spraying on our food anyway? LOL
Can’t stand Cavuto, but my husband’s watching it now. Rendell is on and is saying that Specter will run unopposed or without serious opposition in the Dem primary. And that Obama and Biden endorse him. It just sickens me to see Dems sticking up for Specter. Around the progressives blogs not much of a mention about Anita Hill. What a waste of a real opportunity to get a real Democrat in office. Instead we get Specter the Defector.
Hey, check this out. We aren’t the only ones who think this little piggy is going “wee, wee, wee, all the way home”:

lililam, I am chuckling about your tv debut.
gary,
I totally agree. I am so glad I left the Dem party last year. It really isn’t the Dem Party any more. It is the Obama Party. The party is just a rudderless ship. They don’t stand for equal rights, separation of church and state, “entitlement programs,” or even public education (have they gotten rid of NCLB?) What the hell do they stand for?
I left a post on an earlier thread last night as to why the Specter episode went down as offered by Chris Matthews who has the inside scoop based on his Repub brother in PA.
Biden and Specter are close friends and ride Amtrak together all the time. Specter is also a neighbor of Fast Eddy Rendell. Looking at the polls in PA for the GOP, Specter was more than likely going down for the count. So Biden stepped in and persuaded him to change over to Dem, promising support from the Party. Rendell, essentially out of favor with the Obama administration agreed to supply the support but on one condition: that Obama consider his wife, a sitting federal judge from PA, for the next SC opening. Obama agreed to this.
Fast Eddy made calls to the Dem Party and basically requested that any candidates already declaring for the 2010 nomination to back off. One at least complied. Fast Eddy then went on to pledge full support for Specter, basically assuring that there would be no challengers from within, and the deal was made.
Rendell has nothing to lose politically since he cannot run again for governor and is hoping for an appointment himself to the Obama cabinet, primarily Transportation. Obama gets himself a possible filibuster proof Senate and Specter gets to remain a Senator. Biden gets the title of Kingmaker and approval form the Obama group. This, according to Chris Matthews, which when you look closely, makes a lot of sense.
Sham opportunism! The Dem Party of PA is putting its weight behind a GOP defector in place of party candidates. Shameful.
7? That’s bad. That’s about 2 per month – March, April and May.
Last time I check, twice as many people per month died opening canned goods and zip lock baggies.
Madamab I have heard that this is just the beginning of the epidemic…at least 23 million could be killed by this pandemic based on the fact that 152 have died of 1680 cases worldwide a mortality rate of under 10% if 2.5 billion people become infected by August….after august a vaccine should be ready! in time to start the midterm election cycle-mmmm
You guys heard they just upped the category for the flue to 5. 6 being the hightest.
Thanks for the perspective MadamAb. That helps a lot.
RE: In a normal flu season, 250,000 – 500,000 people die worldwide, according to CNN.
I think this WHO flu guy Dr. Keiji Fukuda is a bit out of control. We shall see. I keep washing my hands. And on Obama’s party for himself tonight:
NEW YORK – The Fox network is sticking with its regular schedule over President Barack Obama this week.
The network is turning down the president’s request to show his prime-time news conference on Wednesday. The news conference marks Obama’s 100th day in office. Instead of the president, Fox viewers will see an episode of the Tim Roth drama “LIE TO ME.”
It’s the first time a broadcast network has refused Obama’s request. This will be the third prime-time news conference in Obama’s presidency. ABC, CBS and NBC are airing it.
anyone have an idea of what’s on teevee tonight other than POTUS and TOTUS?
It’s raining cats and dogs here so, talked to the momster and won’t make a visit tonight. Yes, I”ll melt!

Pat J this is SO true. you express it better than I can.
your description of the political deal behind the scenes rings pretty damn true to me!
I still believe this is a smokescreen to divert attention away from the looting of our tax dollars! How convenient this pig/bird/human flu thing is. Just when the people were starting to make noise….Bang! it’s the end of the world as we know it!
something smells here and it aint those pig farms in Mexico run by an American company!
sorry madamab I was being snarky ….not serious

LOL, of course.
Face it, this is all a bunch of manufactured nonsense. As I said below, the regular flu kills 250,000 – 500,000 people a year, and it’s not called a “pandemic.”
The hysteria is truly beyond belief.
