Obama Declares War on Pro-Choice Americans: No One Notices

Lipstick on a Misogynist Pig

Lipstick on a Misogynist Pig

FAIR WARNING: This is a rant. With swear words and everything. Caution, earmuffs and burn cream are recommended before proceeding.

Oh my Goddess, did you read what our Dear Leader said last night? (I’m assuming that most of you didn’t watch, lest you die from Obama Narcissism Overload, or at the very least, overdose on the saccharine ejaculations of the chattering classes over the Bestest, Most Melanin-Enhanced Preznit Evah.) Did you fucking read what this condescending, preening creep said about being pro-choice in America?

First of all, he said that the issue of abortion is not just about women’s freedom. Yes, you heard that right, sweeties. It’s NOT about being free to control your own body. (I have to admit, a small part of me wonders if he read my post yesterday; the coincidence is just bizarre!)

THE PRESIDENT: You know, my view on abortion I think has been very consistent. I think abortion is a moral issue and an ethical issue. I think that those who are pro-choice make a mistake when they — if they suggest — and I don’t want to create straw men here, but I think there are some who suggest that this is simply an issue about women’s freedom and that there’s no other considerations. I think, look, this is an issue that people have to wrestle with, and families and individual women have to wrestle with.

The reason I’m pro-choice is because I don’t think women take that position casually. I think that they struggle with these decisions each and every day, and I think they are in a better position to make these decision ultimately than members of Congress or a President of the United States — in consultation with their families, with their doctors, with their clergy. So that’s been my consistent position.

All right, stay with me here, I know your heads are rotating 360 degrees and you’re wanting to projectile-vomit. I feel ya, sisters and brothers!

So on the one hand, he says that pro-choice Americans are wrong to make access to abortion about women’s freedom. Then, Both Ways Barack says that no one in the government should make those decisions for women because they’re the best ones to make that decision. So if no one in the government should make those decisions for women, then it’s a private matter, right? Then it IS about women’s freedom to control their own bodies without the government interfering, you fucking asshole!

Just a side note here: Remember Sarah Palin, the demon witch who had to be stopped from becoming President (even though she was running for Vice President, everyone knew McCain was practically dead!!11!!!!)? Our Beloved Barack is TO THE RIGHT of her on abortion.I’m not talking about their personal beliefs, because who gives a shit? What Sarah Palin believes does not matter UNLESS SHE TURNS IT INTO POLICY. Duh fucking duh! And Palin has not done one single, solitary thing during her time as Alaska’s governor to restrict access to birth control, sex education or abortion. In fact, her first State Supreme Court pick was a pro-choice woman. Eat it, Obots!

Conversely, Obama is making access to birth control, sex education and abortion MORE DIFFICULT because he will not sign this act, and as you know, he is expanding Bush’s faith-based initiatives (which includeds funding abstinence-only education, a practice that has been proven to increase teen pregnancy and STD’s), and taking funding away from birth control clinics in order to gain Republican budget votes that never materialized.

Point number two: His oft-repeated frame that a woman must consult with everyone in the world before she makes that decision that she is “in the best position to make,” including, of course, clergy, because everyone in the world is religious, as we all know. (Insert eyeroll here.) Once again, Obama’s inability to stand up to his evangelical base is making a mockery of his supporters’ claims that he is a feminist in any way, shape or form. Guess what, Barack, it’s not “My body, my pastor’s choice.” MMMMMKAY?

Point number three: Broken Campaign Promise #4,127,803, the Freedom of Choice Act. He was a co-sponsor of the Act in 2007, and promised pro-choice groups that the “first thing he’d do” as President was to sign that bill. And last night, he said this:

Now, the freedom of choice act is not my highest legislative priority.

Oh, of course not. Only a brain-dead, Kool-Aid imbibing, patriarchy-loving sellout would ever think that Obama gives a shit about people with scary lady parts.

You know, like this one, from a place called Reproductive Health Reality Check. Ah, the irony! Is this an article, or the introduction to a romance novel?

For those in favor of women’s rights, the first 100 days of the Obama administration has been like a honeymoon. We’ve continually been reminded why we fell in love in the first place. Coming off an eight-year abusive relationship (to put it mildly), none of Obama’s kindnesses are lost on us. He seems to be the kind of guy who does what he says he’s going to do, another relief.

Or this one, from perennial Obama fluffer, NOW’s disgrace of a President, Kim Gandy:

President Barack Obama’s first 100 days have brought real change for women.

Obama swiftly signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, repealed the Global Gag Rule, restored international family planning aid and acted to rescind Bush’s harmful health care refusal rule. He also signed the reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program with important provisions for immigrant children, and created the White House Council on Women on Girls.

Or this, from Planned Parenthood:

“While on the campaign trail, President Obama promised women and their families that he would not only tackle health care reform, but also end the politicization of women’s health. And in what by any measure has been a busy 100 days, President Obama has lived up to that promise,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “It’s been a tremendous 100 days for those of us committed to strengthening women’s health care and ensuring that young people have the information and care they need to become healthy and productive adults. Thanks to President Obama’s leadership, health care decisions are now being driven by sound science and not political ideology. That’s change we all can believe in — and change that will succeed in reducing our nation’s alarming rate of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. It’s change that puts prevention first — to the benefit of all women and their families.”

Wow, Obotia must be a lovely place to live. Where can I get a pair of those rainbow-colored glasses that turn bullshit into brilliance?

But I guess I shouldn’t be so pissed off. Why in the world are people angry about this stuff, anyway? Can’t we all just get along? Kumbaya, my Obama, Kumbaya….

I believe that women should have the right to choose, but I think that the most important thing we can do to tamp down some of the anger surrounding this issue is to focus on those areas that we can agree on. And that’s where I’m going to focus.

So in conclusion, Barack Obama tells me I don’t have the right to control my own body, and that I have to consult with my rabbi before getting an abortion, because I must make sure a penile-ly endowed human signs off on my decision; you know that a sweetie like me can’t be trusted to handle such moral and ethical decisions. Then, after promising to sign the Freedom of Choice Act IMMEDIATELY upon being inaugurated, he says, dripping with snide-i-tude, that it’s not his first legislative priority. So, no legal hope and change for me either. And finally, after treating me like shit, then telling me he’s not going to do anything to help me become a fully enfranchised member of American society, he tells me not to be angry, and focus on the areas of agreement I have with people whose views are diametrically opposed to mine.

Let me tell you something, Barack Obama. I am angry. I am angry WITH YOU. I am angry with the PKFD for deciding that you, on track to becoming the worst President in recent memory, perhaps surpassing your beloved Raygun, were in any way, shape or form an acceptable substitute for Hillary Clinton. You are a microbe, and she is a giant, and FUCK the Obama for America Party for depriving America of her and giving us you, you unqualified, thieving, corporatist, woman-hating, homophobic schmuck.

I am angry with all those so-called “feminists” who perpetrated the monstrously unfair attacks against Sarah Palin instead of supporting her run, while disagreeing with her policies. I am angry with the Obamedia and the fauxgressive blogosphere, from which I am hearing nothing but crickets regarding this latest salvo in the war against pro-choice Americans. And I am incredibly angry with organizations like NOW and Planned Parenthood and Reproductive Health Reality Check for pretending this fraud is going to do anything whatsoever to advance women’s rights during his already interminable tenure in the Oval Office.

Yes, goddammit all, I am angry beyond all mollification. Don’t you tell me I’ve got to make nice with any of these pieces of slime. I’m not ready, I’m not over it, and I goddamn never will be.

GAH! The so-called “feminist” groups can’t even help themselves — talking about Obama like a lover from whom they seek “kindnesses” and being victims under Bush. {rolls eyes} Well, lets look at what else Obama has done in this “honeymoon” period (h/t Godless Liberal Homo)

    - Continuing the Iraq War until at least the end of 2011
    - Rick Warren
    - Continuing the Pink Ceiling on queer cabinet appointees
    - Delaying the repeal of the military ban indefinitely
    - Bailing out the banksters and the broksters instead of their victims
    - Continuing the practice of “extraordinary rendition” (in plain English kidnapping people and sending them to other countries to be tortured)
    - Refusing to push for a repeal of the Bush tax cuts for the rich ASAP
    - Allowing a racist, misogynist, corrupt, arrogant, and incompetent jackass like Larry Summers to guide his economic policies
    - Doing more to bail out banksters and broksters than auto workers
    - Spending only a piddly amount on mass transit while wasting a huge amounts of money promoting Big Oil (e.g. road funding, the Iraq War)

Great rant, MB –but I really think you should cite when Obama made that promise about signing FOCA as “his first act” as president (speech to Planned Parenthood July 17, 2008), ’cause you know the Obots will want a link to believe it (and even then they will still deny it).

  2. madamab said

Angie – maybe a video will help them believe it.

Perfect MB — I still have my doubts about the hardcore obots, but its a start. :-)

Blog swearing feels so good. Let the hate flow through you… :-)

No, it’s not about women’s freedom. It’s more than that. See, Barry wants us guys to know that if we knock ya up you can go on down to yonder clinic and ABORT ABORT ABORT! (as long as you ask your man, God, your clergy, next door neighbor, the corpse of Howard Cossell, the Dalai Lama, Karl Marx, your mechanic, the butcher the baker the candlestick maker…).

  5. taggles said

obama knows that if it was to pass and he were to sign FOCA, there would be no more bludgeoning us over the head anymore with this issue.

he is dumb like a fox.

plus he doesn’t really care about it. win-win for him.

shame shame shame to all those that have kept their mouths shut on this…HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME!!!! You are no better then the man who said it, when you allow your government leader to say it, and stay hidden in the corner and hope no one heard it!!!

Would really love to know if that Planned Parenthood press release was issued before or after Barry’s speech last night. If it was before, were they trying to apply some last minute pressure. Though that is irresponsible. If they truly believed what they were writing, they should have waited till after the press conference. Either way, they now have an irrefutable responsibility to respond to his callous and specific comments regarding freedoms, consultation, non priority for FOCA, his overall dismissive attitude. Cannot believe not one women’s group has called him out, more than 24 hours after the fact. It’s either heaping denial or plain old cowardice.

3 Wickets — it was before but so what — it was full of b.s. — Obama has not done anything for women, never has, never will. They are just trying to justify their own attack of a woman (Sarah Palin*) in favor of this useless man.

*and if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times — you don’t have to agree with a woman politically, but if you stand by & do nothing while she is being publicly defiled and/or worse publicly defile her yourself, you aren’t a feminist.

” Obama swiftly signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act,” Hillary did most of the work and as nice as Ledbetter is, IMO it is mostly symbolic. The Senate pulled the legislation that would have put some teeth into the concept of “Fair Play” because Obama didn’t want to offend his BFFs, the fucking Republicans.

He also lied about torture, wiretapping, and WTF is he trying to do to Black farmers by capping damages in the “Pigford” case and trying to overturn Michigan v Jackson and on and on. OT — I love 30 Rock — Liz just asked Jack if he treats her any differently because she’s a woman & Jack answers (very nonchalantly) “Well, yes, I pay you a little less.”

  22. angienc2 said

bchboy1 — close, but no cigar. That is what Obama wants you to think he is saing. But what he is really saying is that a woman is too stupid to understand what is going on in her own body & needs to consult with her husband/pastor/owner before making such a big decision on her own.

  23. Fredster said

bchboy: Why should a woman need to or feel compelled to work with a clergy member or anyone else?

  26. madamab said

bchboy1 – Not only what Angie said, but policy-wise, he is not doing what he said he would for women.

I love the weasel words in Kim Gandy’s statement: “moved to rescind” the conscience rule. Moved? What the hell does that mean? He hasn’t rescinded it yet, and actually, his people admitted he might not do so at all.

Pay attention to what Obama does, not what he says. That’s what I do.

  27. angienc2 said

Desert Mouse — go fuck yourself. You miss the point completely — if the ONE can force that Trillion dollar porkulus down Congress’s throat in 10 days, you don’t think he can get FOCA passed?

Below link is Cecile Richards of PP on Monday. Worried about getting Sebelius past the GOP. BO/Rahm probably leaned on the Senate with the Swine Flu business to get Sebelius confirmed Tuesday.

    http://community.feministing.com/2009/04/dont-let-anti-choice-activists.html

Then Wednesday, BO gets asked a planted question no doubt about choice and Notre Dame, and he answers in a way that he thinks will reward the Republicans. It’s possible. Whatever is going on in his screwy head, on matters of policy, when he fucks around like this, he must be slapped back. He keeps testing the women’s groups, they keep conceding, he’ll keep ignoring and playing them. He is very consciously marginalizing choice which de facto means marginalizing women and their rights. He wants to make his mark on unwanted pregnancies, but he is leaning to the abstinence crowd and not talking about birth control. It’s pathetic to watch.

  35. madamab said

  38. angienc2 said

bchboy1 — maybe so, but women don’t need a man telling them that they should, either. The only position that a man can have that is valid on this issue is: it is the woman’s choice. Point.Blank.Period. No f*cking qualifications. Point.Blank.Period. And you can pretend that when Obama says “pastor, family, doctor” he doesn’t mean the nearest MAN, but I’m not fooled.

  39. madamab said

bchboy1 – The problem is that Obama is re-framing the issue of choice. He is saying that “My body, my choice” is no longer operative. Neither is “Safe, Legal and Rare.” Now it’s “women, in consultation with x, y and z”. He says it all the time.

No no no no no. No one but me gets to make that decision. Obama doesn’t get to tell me whom to consult or include it as a given.

  40. Fredster said

FOCA has not been introduced to the 11th (current) Congress. In other instances where it was introduced, such as in 1989, according to the Catholic Key blog, some opponents, like Carol Mosely Braun, objected that it “did not go far enough.” Do your own homework, Desert Mouse. That’s just what I found in two very disparate places.

  49. angienc2 said

Wonderful synopsis. I have a horse in this race. Her name is Herstory. She’s a great horse, but because she’s not a stallion, she’s been put into a starting block that is a mile behind the other horses, cause obviously she can’t win, so why get her hopes up. She really needs to learn her place – back in the barn breeding with whichever stallion they choose. Upstart needs to learn her place.
When the race starts, she runs, but because she’s handicapped, she has to run twice as hard, and twice as long. I know why she never wins – it’s not because she doesn’t have the heart – the deck is stacked. She was never meant to have a chance. She was only allowed to enter the race so it would look fair – Bollocks, I say, bollocks.
Now, let’s take a look at PBO’s words if we were addressing men’s ability to control their own bodies. For example, ingestion of viagra, or one of the many sexual enhancement drugs available to men.

“THE PRESIDENT: You know, my view on Viagra I think has been very consistent. I think Viagara is a moral issue and an ethical issue. I think that those who are pro-choice make a mistake when they — if they suggest — and I don’t want to create straw men here, but I think there are some who suggest that this is simply an issue about men’s freedom and that there’s no other considerations. I think, look, this is an issue that people have to wrestle with, and families and individual men have to wrestle with.

The reason I’m pro-choice is because I don’t think men take that position casually. I think that they struggle with these decisions each and every day, and I think they are in a better position to make these decision ultimately than members of Congress or a President of the United States — in consultation with their families, with their doctors, with their clergy. So that’s been my consistent position.”

Now, how do you thing that would resonate with the male public? Want Viagra? Consult your doctor and clergy.
And, hey, what about those atheists and agnostics? Who do they approach to get approval?

taggles — yes, it could, but only if it plays out correctly — the jackasses actually waking up & the Senate actually standing up — unfortunately, given past behavior, it is more likely that the jackasses will stay on the hopium justifying & spinning while the Senate rolls over , just like they did it for Bush, who wasn’t (allegedly) in their Party.

All right folks, gotta get going. Hang in there. As Scarlett would say, “Tomorrow…is another day!”

I’m gonna miss him for the plain fact that reagan appointed that liberal and the right wingers panties have been in a knot ever since!

  82. angienc2 said

taggles — actually it was Bush (the real one) who appointed Souter. But yeah, I like that too — an appointee who actually took his job seriously (i.e., not being swayed by politics — that is what the life appointment is supposed to do).

  83. taggles said

oh yeah, that’s right, bush the first! thanks angie!

reason for missing him still stand!

When he says abortion is a moral issue (plus the dinger that it is not just about women’s freedom), he sounds scarily like Scalia below. Sorry in advance for the destination, but helps to see what the other side is saying.

Wow, Souter resigning will be a huge blow. I can’t even imagine who Obama would nominate…I shudder to think.

This is a great post, mb! It boggles the mind that not a single women’s rights group has made a peep about FOCA. But then not a single women’s rights group supported two liberal women running for President either (McKinney/Clemente), and instead chose an all male ticket.

  86. taggles said

no worries 3w, i went and read some sights today that would set your hair on fire. they are thrilled with Obama’s press conference and new view on FOCA.

  87. angienc2 said

Fun fact about Scalia — the Senate voted for him unanimously after Ray-gun primed the pump with Bork –and fact is, Bork was way, way better than Scalia — don’t get me wrong, Bork is a massively wrong asshole, but he doesn’t have the same downright meanness that Scalia has.

I remember the confirmation hearings for Bork & Scalia — the Senate Dems. were so damned impressed with themselves for doing all that work blocking Bork that they played dead for Scalia. Morons.

  88. SHV said

If the Souter story is true (and I’m hoping it isn’t) I hope Obama appoints that jackass Kmeic
    **********
Obama won’t be able to help himself, his ODD will show itself and he will nominate the person who was in charge of the Obama national values campaign…Doug Kmiec. Pat Leahy won’t know whether to shit or go blind. (that would be a southern say’n)

  89. SHV said

    **********
That was a huge mistake….the Obot “types” of that time totally trashed Bjork, (the guy does look weird) and we got Scalia (much worse) and it really poisoned the SCOTUS nomination process.

  90. angienc2 said

SHV — that’s what I’m thinking too — I only pray that the jackasses (in the public & in the Senate) wake the f*ck up & stop it.

    Ok, y’all — I’m out.

    Good night all!!

  91. taggles said

    nighty night angie!

  92. angienc2 said

SHV — yep, it sure did. I was in grade school (but obvs. politically aware) & remember the whole thing. I called Bork “King Tut” — remember that stupid beard! LOL

Ok, good night for real this time!!

hey, taggles, do you still have that swine flu test link handy?

  94. taggles said

i can dig it up! hang on…

  95. taggles said

Click here to see if you have the swine flu!

    That is too funny!!!!

  97. taggles said

made me laugh. i just don’t know how serious this thing is. on one hand, seems over hyped. on the other, maybe there is something we don’t know.

i guess the best thing to do is try not to worry and take whatever precautions you can.

I really don’t like what I am seeing from Obamanation. He has managed to move the Dem Party to the right on reproductive rights. The left blogosphere were praising him for recognizing the complexity of the issue. Actually, it’s not complex at all. If you don’t believe in abortion, don’t get one. End of story. To me the reason for having the abortion is irrelevant. Autonomy. It is my right and the right of every woman.

    Righteous rant madamab!

I almost dropped my dentures (except I don’t have any) when I heard that on the teevee about Souter.

Man oh man. What the fuck will Obie dig up to submit? On the one hand he could Hillary but don’t think he will.

    Ah, the speculation will begin!!

and didn’t close a damned tag again. Shit!

OH! Saw this on the teevee too: the Senate voted down a provision to allow cram downs on mortgages where the homeowner is in trouble.

Late to the party again. Great post MB. I can’t believe the lack of reaction. Hey angie and SHV, didn’t Specter have something to do with derailing the Bork nomination? I thought I read that while scanning articles about him.

You on the late shift Gary?

I just finished writing a post for the morning. I’ve got a Dr. appt early, so I’ll be off to bed soon.

  105. Fredster said

No headachey feelings, fever, tummy problems huh?

  106. garychapelhill said

LOL, no, it’s just for some routine tests. I’ve had it scheduled for over a month. But I did have a real bad stomach flu about a month ago, we were visiting family and everyone in the house ended up getting sick. Really bad vomiting, aches, pains, the works. It felt like the flu to me, but it only lasted about a day or so and I only ran a low grade fever, so who knows. Out of 7 of us, mawm was the only one who didn’t get it.

  107. Fredster said

LOL!! Sounds like Mawm has the magic anti-bodies in him. Guess Mawm got to play nurse to all you sick ones and I can only imagine everyone thinking “And why is he so lucky?”

    Good luck tomorrow.

    Nite.

  108. angienc2 said

gary — I was out for a while — but yes, Specter was the only Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee to come out against Bork.

btw — you know who else Obama could nominate — Cass Sunstein — the guy who doesn’t think workplace safety laws and the Clean Air Act are Constitutional & who has has embraced a “senior death discount” that calculates the lives of younger people as having a greater value than those of the elderly.

I remember seniors & environmentalists raising a little bit of a dust up when Sunstein was appointed Czar of something — but I also remember them couching their critique with disclaimers about giving Obama a “chance” & then shutting up after about 5 minutes. I’m sure the same rules will apply to a Kmeic or Sunstein appointment to the USSC.

  109. angienc2 said

Oh, and good night for real for real.

Lets face it… if the past is truly a good predictor of future performance… the available spot for judge will remain vacant…. giving the Executive branch even more power…………

  111. To top it all, now Souter announced he will retire. Any guess as to what kind of replacement Obama would find? Hint: Sarah Pali named a pro-choice woman in Alaska’s Supreme Court

  112. Invalid
That’s a good guess. here’s another, from a NYU professor at Politico

a good opportunity for Obama to again play the “bipartisan” card by picking a moderate, and almost dare the Republicans to come out against him.

And since anti-choice is moral, it would also be moderate…So, Cass Sunstein it is!

I think we might be making a tactical error when we make autonomy over one’s own body a women’s issue. I personally think that is immoral to bury or burn body parts that could save or improve someone else’s life. My feelings about that personally are so strong that I carry an organ donor card, have informed ALL of my loved ones, and have it on file with my doctors. But I understand that some people feel differently about it than I do. Maybe it’s because of religious beliefs- maybe they just think it’s icky, but it doesn’t really matter why. It’s their choice. The government has no right to force anyone, male or female, to allow his or her body to be used to save someone else. We can ask, but we can’t force. Even if the reason why you need a new kidney is my fault, I can’t be forced to give you one of mine. And the decision is mine and mine alone. A woman’s uterus appears to be the only body part that the government seeks to control now, but there’s always that famous “slippery slope”.

  116. indie said

What you’re missing, though, is that if you don’t want the government to control women’s choices, why on earth do you keep looking to the government to sign the FOCA? Or to fund family planning programs? Or to fund abortions?

Quit giving them the control. The government OWNS family planning programs in this country. Do you have any idea how much funding Title 20 gives family planning programs in this country? Do you now want them to fund abortions on an equal basis? If they do, they will get all the stats and data on the abortion that they do on the family planning programs, and yes, that means your name, addres, ss# and what kind of birth control you use. Why are women ceding this private matter to the government at all?

The real freedom would be removing the government from it completely. But, there in lies the rub. The government is already so deeply entrenched in family planning programs in this country, that you can never get rid of them. Therefore, you are forced to go begging to jerks like Barry O for money to keep the existing programs and infrastructure going.

And guess what? Barry O and the Dems know that.
