Gen. David Petraeus
Despite Obama’s “We’re too busy to deal with it” excuse for not investigating the possibility of war crimes committed by the previous administration, the torture issue is not going to go away.
John Stolz, a co-founder of VoteVets.org who served as a captain in Iraqi Freedom is calling attention to a recent statement by Gen. Petraeus in which he admits the U.S. has violated the Geneva Conventions.
Stolz quotes Petraeus from his recent appearance on Fox News (emphases mine):
Question: So is sending this signal that we’re not going to use these kind of techniques anymore, what kind of impact does this have on people who do us harm in the field that you operate in?
Gen. Petraeus: Well, actually what I would ask is, “Does that not take away from our enemies a tool which again have beaten us around the head and shoulders in the court of public opinion?” When we have taken steps that have violated the Geneva Conventions we rightly have been criticized, so as we move forward I think it’s important to again live our values, to live the agreements that we have made in the international justice arena and to practice those.

Hi dyb,
I just googled Petraeus and Geneva Conventions and although Daily Kos and TPM had the item up 6 hours ago, I didn’t see anything from the MSM. I would think this would be taken very seriously.
Taggles,
I watched some of that documentary, and it was just too horrifying to continue. Thank you for posting it. We all need to be reminded of what has taken place in our names.
Here’s more from the Daily Beast about the Daily Telegraph article the Pentagon tried to deny:
The Daily Beast has confirmed that the photographs of abuses at Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison, which President Obama, in a reversal, decided not to release, depict sexually explicit acts, including a uniformed soldier receiving oral sex from a female prisoner, a government contractor engaged in an act of sodomy with a male prisoner and scenes of forced masturbation, forced exhibition, and penetration involving phosphorous sticks and brooms.
These descriptions come on the heels of a British report yesterday about the photographs that contained some of these revelations—and whose credibility was questioned by the Pentagon.
OT
this is some information for Jules from a prior post.
I asked the guys in work for information about some good neighborhoods fairly close to City of Industry.
They said look in Ontario Ca or Rancho Cucamonga Ca or Laverne CA.
Laverne a beautiful small town but it is expensive.
Sorry to interupt but I wanted Jules to have some information.

Herbert can drop fucking dead.
Not soon enough.
When we have taken steps that have violated the Geneva Conventions we rightly have been criticized, so as we move forward I think it’s important to again live our values, to live the agreements that we have made in the international justice arena and to practice those.

Gen. Petraeus admit that Geneva Conventions were violated, forget international justice, the US Criminal Code has been violated…Holder and the DoJ need to do their damn job.
DYB: Was that the 8 page article that showed him in his office in Harlem?
I had put a link down a couple of threads but no one picked up on it or ignored it.
It was a great article and Bill spoke pretty honestly about the heart surgery and its effects on him and other things. He spoke about how if there had been no amendment against it he would have run again and again and probably “have to be carried out in a pine box” to paraphrase him.
I got misty-eyed just reading the thing. If we’re talking about the same article, here’s the link:
That really was a great article. It reminded me once again how much I really miss that guy as President. Bill was the real deal.
I’m with SHV in that Eric Holder needs to do his damn job or resign in shame.

If anyone in the MSM takes note of this and runs with it I think someone will have to make room for the General under the bus.
