New Year’s Eve Widdershins: 2011 Predictions Thread!

Posted by: madamab on: December 31, 2010

Happy New Year!

It’s New Year’s Eve Morning, Widdershins, and I’m most likely sleeping soundly after yesterday’s exhausting drive up the East Coast. Many of us believe that in dreams we take journeys into the depths and heights of our creative unconsciouses, and I assure you this is precisely what I have done. Thanks to this mystical mode of travel, I have channeled ten guaranteed-to-be accurate predictions for this upcoming year of Two Thousand And Eleven. Prepare to be amazed!

  1. This movie will SUCK. (And blow). Earth to Hollywood: Seth Rogen is NOT a superhero.
  2. Barack Obama will continue to be the Worst President Ever and amaze us with his ever-increasing capacity for oratorical and governmental crapulence. In November of 2011, he will announce that he will not be running for re-election, after which he will evaporate in a cloud of cigarette smoke and poorly-written rhetoric.
  3. Hillary Clinton will resign as Secretary of State and announce her candidacy for the 2012 Presidency. Her running mate will be Kirsten Gillibrand, Russ Feingold, Wesley Clark or Sarah Palin. (Ha! Just checking to see if you were paying attention.)
  4. Sarah Palin will declare her run as the “Tea Party” Presidential candidate for 2012. Her running mate will be Christine O’Donnell. Unfortunately, before the end of the year Ms. O’Donnell will turn La Palin into a newt. Fortunately, Sarah will get better.
  5. Rush Limbaugh will FINALLY come out of the closet. Deserted by his bigoted fanbase, he and “formerly gay” evangelical minister Ted Haggard will elope to Connecticut, taking their honeymoon in an understated 6000-square-foot villa in Anse Chastenet. Soon afterwards, Yahweh will smite it out of existence (with the two lovebirds inside). Some things really ARE an outrage against the Lord!
  6. The newly GOP House will subpoena Obama’s birth certificate, and will discover that he is, in fact, an alien from the Turdian Galaxy (which explains his fabled ability to play chess in 11 dimensions!).
  7. “Burnt Orange” Boehner and “Snake Lips” McConnell will entertain tens of millions of Americans with their wacky, supremely idiotic pronouncements. Sadly for them, the entertainment factor will not translate into high approval ratings.
  8. In fact, 2011 will see Congressional approval numbers going below zero. (Yes, I know it’s impossible. But darn it all, they’ll be just awful enough to make it happen!)
  9. Joe Lieberman will become a Republican in 2012. Or he’ll become a Democrat. Or he’ll be sent home to Connecticut. (What am I, Miss Cleo?)
  10. Michele “Crazy Eyes” Bachmann will quit her job as a Congresswoman and go to work for the TSA. The best part: She won’t need an x-ray machine to see through peoples’ clothing!
  11. Bonus prediction: You will really, really like tomorrow’s post. We have a surprise for you!

Well, that’s it. My crystal ball has gone dark. But what about you? Why don’t you tap into your own creative unconscious, and share your own 2011 predictions with us?

We wish you a very Happy New Year’s Eve! May 2011 bring you health, prosperity and most of all, love.

This is an open thread.

My predictions: (such as they are)

1. The nation will sit up and take notice once this new congress begins gutting and proposing “tax cuts” that will effect their very way of life. Good bye Tea Party, hello commonsense!

2. Michele Bachmann will be more visible because she does make good copy. Insanity disguised as politics has given us Jesse Helms and Jim Traficante to name a few just like her.

3. Obama will hang on simply because the alternative that will be offered up by the opposition is even worse.

4. Palin will run. Because it is no skin off her nose either way. A loss will just increase her revenues (which is her primary function) and she will always be available to “whine in” on any topic as she has done in the past two years. It costs her nothing.

5. Obama will capitulate on most everything that will effect the elderly and middle class. It’s his way of governing. He just doesn’t give a damn.

6. Lindsay Lohan will escape rehab and within weeks resume her downward slide.

7. Hillary will more than likely continue for the next 12 months at least as SoS. She is no quitter.

8. The Obots will maintain that the rest of us are out of step with Obama’s genius but will be banging their heads against the wall trying to shake out another contortion as to why.

9. Property taxes will rise due to the shortfall of federal monies and the tax breaks enacted on behalf of the uber rich. Many homeowners are going to see their inability to maintain their ownership as a result.

10. Unemployment will show only a slight downtick and a sense of desperation will begin to take hold as most of us are awakening to the fact that there are few in DC actually looking out for us.

Not sure if these “predictions” are anything new but my guess is that they will carry over to 2011 with little “hope or change” in sight.

Madamab:
Even though your predictiions are mainly tongue-in-cheek, they’ll probably turn out to be just as accurate as those given by the serious pundits.

I think when you say that “Boner’s” and “Snake Lips’ wacky pronouncements will not translate into high approval ratings from the tens of millions who listen, you are wrong.

Fox News will spin their pronouncements as absolute gospel, pointing out their profound truth, and millions upon millions will follow “Boner,” O’Connell and Bachman up the hill (and over the cliff? Maybe not).

As far as Hillary goes, I’m still not sure about her, but “hope is alive.”

I hope to come in with some predictions within the coming days, but today I need to prepare for out New Year’s Eve party.

Pat Johnson,
Why does everyone seem so sure of Hillary? I personally like her, but I’m not convinced of her toughness, and I would bet on a lack of cooperation from even Democrats in congress.

But I think your last paragraph is the key to the 10 items you list before it.

Eddie

Eddie: Hillary is the consumate politician. Both Clintons eat, sleep, and breathe politics: it is in their DNA.

She will do nothing to embarass Obama or cause any speculation at this early stage that would cast any aspersions on The One. Not, at least, until the 2012 campaign has been run.

Her “toughness” is in her ability to withstand most of the crapola that has been slung at her over the years and knowing when and what to fight for.

What Pat said. Even consummate Obot commentators such as Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann have paid grudging tribute to the toughness and personal discipline.

@2: I think most of us here have watched Hillary over the years and are damn well convinced of her toughness. The woman has ovaries of steel!!! If anyone can work with a corrupt, divided, and inept Congress, she can. After all, she had friends on both sides of the aisle as a Senator and impressed everyone there with her intelligence, political savvy, and work ethic. Would she be able to perform miracles if she ever becomes POTUS? Of course not. These are extremely difficult times for our country and I, for one, am not “sure” any politician can save us. But of all the potential candidates out there, I believe she is our greatest hope at this point. Who would you prefer?

@3 and @4:
I truly hope your right about Hillary. But I remain skeptical until all the good things happen.
I said “skeptical.” I hope I don’t come across as “cynical.”

To all:
Last night I watched on YouTube a 20-minute+ video of an interview of Bill Clinton by Chris Wallace from 9/2006 on Fox News.

As the heading indicated, Clinton destroyed him and left him almost speechless. I urge you all to watch it.

Eddie

To all,
The interview in my previous comment is in 3 parts.

Eddie: Most of us have had our cynical hats on for so long now that I can safely say that mine has become permanently attached to my head!

I trust Obama about as far as I can throw him and I fear the Right more than I can express so for us to keep glancing toward Hillary as a possible contender is about all we have left. We saw what her courage, tenacity, and willingness to put herself out there was worth and so far no one has emerged that could equal it.

Obama is probably a “shoo in” in 2012 judging by the number of “mental midgets” from the Right who more than likely will throw their hats in the ring over the next few months.

All one need do is roll the name of any one of those contenders off your tongue by prefixing the word “president” and the idea of Obama winning a second term is more than likely.

The big question will be what this nation will look like in two years after the Tea Partiers, obstructionist GOPers, and a “bend over backward @sshole” have managed to decimate as they willingly lead the parade to the bottom.

Chat, I have another question for you regarding my mother. She is over the stomach virus and is taking liquid zithromax for the u.r. infection. She is drinking some and seems to be hydrated. But for past few days, she has been refusing to eat or take her other meds. Would a temporary feeding tube be a way to get her food and meds until she regains her strength? I don’t feel it would be an end of life decision. She was doing quite well before this virus hit her. She had been eating, taking her meds, and had gained about 10 lbs since the summer.

To Pat and all Hillary’s admirers,

Every time I think of all the positives about Hillary, I also think of the “sniper fire” she dodged.

But I’ll take her anyway!

Eddie: Just a head’s up regarding Hillary: most of us here on this blog have more or less been together for about 3 years in one forum or another and we are essentially strong supporters. One “gaffe” does not negate anything she has done over the last 35 yrs of public service to radically change our positions.

You have the right to state your opinion and should do so without fear of reprisal from any of us, but just keep in mind that most of us who claim Widdershin “membership” share a strong connection to her.

Is she perfect? Absolutely not. But her words, efforts, and successes over the years gave us reason to support her and as you can tell, continue to do so.

At best she is a human being, at worst a politician. The combination makes her fascinating and worthy of respect.

Just saying.

Pat,

WOW!
I admire your fascinating and impassioned defense of Hillary.

Up until today I haven’t even thought of the sniper gaffe. The high praise brought it to mind. And you have to admit it was not a minor gaffe.

But remember the last line in my previous (11) comment!

Eddie

i’m not in the mood to usher in 2011 defending Hillary or Obama. I want results. They both can help get us out of this war. Who will fight for it the most and use the bully pulpit? Hillary will have nothing to loose since I doubt she enters the political campaign arena again.

I would rather see Diplomacy rebuilt after 8 years of Bush. We will see what the State Departments Budget is compared to what it was after the Cheney Admin slashed it to hell and back. We will see what the Republican Congress proposes: We will see who goes to the hill to fight the perpetual war for perpetual peace war machine.

If she can leave State with a longterm plan to keep the State Budget growing (which it already has since she has been there) and put in appropriations safeguards through legislation (i.e. IWAVA) that are legislated to be funded will after she or a Dem leaves State I will be pleased.

She was not called “divisive” by the Obama camp and Republican alike for nothing. Both camps did a bang up job reframing “experience with the dirty tricks of Republicans” and “calling them out for what they are” with “divisive”. How’s that “post-partisan” working out for us?

Eddie: Again, you have to consider the present landscape to appreciate our thoughts. We would have LOVED to be giving Obama the same respect in carrying out the principles of the Dem Party along with fighting to maintain the policies of the FDR administration which binds most of us here.

Is there anyone else out there who at least promises to adhere to what we stand for? Anyone? Other then Bernie Sanders taking a stand against the hypocrisy of how this government is run and the direction it is taking, there is not one pol from either party that we can fully stand behind and support because most have shown their ability to cave under pressure or be bought off by donors whose bottom line is their primary goal.

So yes, we do cling to the thought that perhaps under Hillary Clinton we would be facing different times, or at least be convinced that someone was “fighting” on our behalf rather than selling us out, the middle and lower classes out, to the highest bidder.

In 2008 the alternative was Hillary. We were denied having our hopes raised but rather having them ignored or bargained away by empty suits who regard us a little more than “burdens”.

Okay, I will offer a couple pieces of “toughness”. (Second to follow) Some of her stuff is not political rhetoric. I personally wanted some of this after 8 years of Bush.

She was well off the campaign trail when saying this. “Divisive” or “direct” or saying “what one really believes”. All in the eye of the beholder:

@10: Unless your mother has left specific instructions not to be fed or hydrated, go for it.

I have a feeling our toxic meme alert will only grow as we get closer to 2012.

@11: Ed, after all the political betrayal and lies the country has experienced from both parties in the past 3 years, I am amazed that you still remember the minor flap over Hillary’s sniper comment. You are digging pretty deep there. Do you have an opinion about her hair?

Beata, I hope your mom will be okay and get better – a New Year’s wish for you.

Eddie, what Pat said – Widdershins support her and it’s not a new thing for us. She wuz robbed, and as a result, the country nay the world was robbed. Perfect, no – but honestly, the best most caring, most supportive politician I’ve ever seen besides my country’s own PET, and in 61 years, I’ve seen a lot of politicians.

We had a historical race in 2008: a woman and a black man. I think if Obama was white, Hillary would have won. A great many people were enthralled by the idea of making history.

Madamab, loved your predictions – Miss Cleo could not have done better!
I gave up predictions years ago – funny that because both my mom and grandmum were gifted. I didn’t inherit their talent, although I’ve had my brushes with precognition. I suspect I shut it off because it was frightening, as did my sisters, but strangely, we all call one another when we get a feeling – just to check up you understand. Anyway, just because I won’t be awake at midnight, I will post here what I already posted at Uppity’s – the Scottish Parliament and Auld Lang Syne. Imagine, politicians holding hands and singing. And yes that is Sean Connery (the only James Bond) and the Queen.

Beata, Beata,

You are getting angry. You’re too intelligent to compare Hillary’s hair with a bogus story about sniper fire. That was really not minor, but it had no influence on me at all.

I would certainly vote for her, but I’ve been around a long time and, therefore, disappointed many times. I actually hope she does challenge Obama.

You misunderstand my message. I could be wrong, but I think you take offense at any criticism of Hillary. That’s what got us in trouble with Obama!

Anyway, have a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Eddie

A Dem ushering in the beginning of privatization of social security will indeed be a historic moment. “We don’t want to be looking backwards and just go back to the New Deal….”

Eddie, he was not a black man per se – he was half white, he was raised by his well to do white grandparents. He has never experienced the life of an average black person – ever. I recall one night many years ago when my best buddy told me what it was like being raised in a white centric society. She was a stellar example of what being a woman meant – her skin colour was not a consideration. Her mother was another stellar example of womanhood – raising a passel of kids alone while working full time, balancing work, success and child raising. Obama has done none of that. He is a fraud – a half white fraud. And quite frankly, my buddy thinks he’s milquetoast. The convention was rigged because the powers that be knew they could never control Hillary. They knew Obama was a bought and paid for commodity. Nothing more, nothing less. Please, Eddie, don’t bring those talking points here – it’s a rehash of all the discussions we Widdershins have had over the past three years.

Beata, honey, are you angry? Sweetie, don’t be angry. It just really does not reflect your intelligence. /s

Eddie, The Widdershins are a diverse group representing multiple countries, regions, religions and gradations of liberal. Two things bind us: LGBT/Woman’s issues and Hillary Clinton. Yes, history was made by voting for Obama, yet it was repeated by ascertaining that the male won by fair means or foul. One could say that history would have easily been made by voting for a woman as well as for voting for a person of color. I hear you about the sniper story. Shall we discuss the 57 states visited by Barack Obama during his campaign? If one gaffe is immortal, then the other should be as well.
We take solace in the number of times that BHO has required a Clinton to pull him out of some situation, including leaders of other nations who only want to talk to and have their picture taken with Bill. Go figure – even Kim Jong Il gets it.

Happy New Year’s Eve, Widdershins! Am traveling home (slowly). Can’t wait to catch up with all the great commentary and posts.

@25 – how true that is. Unfortunately, Hillary’s historicness somehow seemed to escape the accepted narrative at the time.

I can oinly echo my fellow commenters re: Hillary. Remember that she had a plan to bail out homeowners (a well-thought-out one) called HOME, based on FDR’s HOLC. She opposed the TARP. She said she would raise taxes back to Clintonian levels. And, she said Social Security benefits did not need to be cut, the program is not in crisis and that Obama was using right-wing talking points when he said otherwise. This is all not mentioning her long decades of fighting for women’s reproductive rights. For one example, as a NY Senator she was instrumental in getting the morning-after pill approved to be sold over the counter for women 18 and over. She got that done during the Bush Administration.

Did you notice that she is the most respected woman in the world for the 9th year running? And she did it without a fake Peace Prize or a bought-off media, too!

But you’re right, that sniper fire comment sure was important. She must not be “tough” or something. And her butt totally looks fat in that pantsuit. :roll;

This is a Hillary-supporting forum despite our leftiness. We made up our minds long ago. Please do keep that in mind.

One more thing – the wingnuts are not the majority of Americans. Glenn Beck got 87000 people on his march; Stewart and Colbert got 250,000. And, the Repubs don’t have a mandate. Even they admit as much. 2 years of their stupidity and religious zealotry will not go over well.

Talk about hair! We had a fun party last night. We watched this:

@31 Never heard of it before, but will look it up. My favorite – Lady Chablis.

Here’s the deal, Eddie. One of the cudgels used to beat Hillary Clinton about the head in 2008 was the sniper fire incident (among many others). So when anyone comes along and brings that up, well, it’s just like the old “Al Gore invented the internet” saw, or “Bill Clinton made planes wait while he got a haircut” lie. I am sure you can understand the red flags that sends up for us about your intentions here?

You come in here and give “praise” to Hillary, but insist on bringing up something that was blown all out of proportion and to you is “not a minor gaffe.”

As with the others here, I know Hillary Clinton is not perfect. She’s far too hawkish for my taste. Yet, based on her lifelong record of looking out for people like me, and her absolute command of the issues, I gave her my support.

Furthermore, I wanted to be wrong, wrong, wrong about Obama (see here), and I take no pleasure in what has transpired.

My biggest fear at this point is, as Pat notes, that we will see the dismantling of the New Deal under this allegedly Democratic President. I have no doubt that Hillary would never have done this.

Sniper fire or not.

From @26. “We don’t want to be looking backwards and just go back to the New Deal….” That quote was from Obama during the healthcare “debate”. Thought I should give credit where credit is do. Thanks for playing, Eddie, and have a great party tonight, and you really are a good writer and story teller.

@25: Eddie, Eddie,

I am obviously PMSing. I tend to get angry, overreact, and take offense easily at “that time of the month”. Don’t worry. It is temporary, unlike the condescending attitudes of some men.

Happy New Year to you, too.

@27
HT, you’re not telling me anything I don’t know. I agree with everything you say. I’ve been saying for the past 18 months that he’s gutless.

If you remember, a few days ago, I said he is either gutless or evil. I prefer the former; Dick Cheney is evil.

@30:

Even though I said that I hope Hillary challenges Obama in 2012, some of you are getting all bent out of shape. My whole point is that I would be skeptical of anyone running for president: Hillary just happens to be the topic of conversation.

And I don’t understand your last paragraph. Are you equating me with Glenn Beck and the religious zealots?

It seems like you have no room for even the slightest deviation from your own opinion, even though my opinion was simply cautionary.

I hope you’re not telling me that I’m not welcome in this conversation because I qualify my support of Hillary–that I’m “only” 99% in favor of her instead of 100%.

@34
Thank you, la, for not piling on and for your kind words about my writing.

Have a great New Year

It seems like you have no room for even the slightest deviation from your own opinion, even though my opinion was simply cautionary.

Nobody is saying you’re not welcome. Please don’t put words in our mouths. We welcome opinions here, but when you give yours, you should also expect a response from us, regardless of whether or not we agree OR disagree with you.

We are merely pointing out that using the same talking points used to beat HRC up in 2008 will make us suspicious of you. That is all. And basically, we are asking that you not do that. Please.

@36 Of course you’re welcome in the conversation, eddie. Have we not given you a warm welcome this last week? Just getting to know each other better. Like I said in the video @19. That’s all.

Eddie, could you please explain your statement @25: “That’s what got us in trouble with Obama!” What got us in trouble?

Also could you please answer my question @5? Who do you prefer to Hillary? Who is more qualified? Who has the necessary “toughness”? Make your opinions clear. My small brain is trying to understand them.

@37 Yup, wrote about it here. I remember it like it was yesterday.

http://wiredleft.wordpress.com/2010/02/04/the-party-of-common-ground/

@41, Beata, your small brain? Now that is a hoot. Anyone who has had interaction with you in the past few years knows that you definitely do not have a small brain, nor do you have an uninformed brain. I don’t think Eddie realized what his words would convey. Typical male, speak first and defend later. However, he seems to have potential and a genuine desire to learn – he just can’t shed his dismissive attitudes when it comes to a losing interaction with those he suspects are female. Of course, he doesn’t really know, but he assumes and we all know what that makes.

@35 – we have given you AMPLE and NUMEROUS explanations for our reactions to your remarks. Read them please.

Or perhaps you are not interested in anyone’s opinion other than your own?

You may not realize this, but you haven’t offered any real criticism of Hillary. By real, I mean “policy-based.” Should you do so, you might find that many of us here would agree with you.

Glenn Beck – that was a response to an earlier comment about how Fox News would make Boehner popular. Nagahapin.

Finally, your remark to Beata was sexist. A woman can be intelligent and angry at the same time. This is a feminist blog and sexism has no place here. Again, please remember that.

@44, Bravo and a hip hip hooray!

@ 42 – Somehow I missed that when it happened. I may have to write about it this weekend!

@46 That was the final blow for me, bluelyon. The nail in the coffin of the Democratic Party. The man could not have spelled it out more clearly.

I have been called an ultra liberal, a far leftist, a pinko commie, a socialist, but never a sexist.

Beata, if my remarks came across as sexist, I apologize. Are there any men out there who can come to my defense. I tell ya, I’M INNOCENT–I DON’T WANNA DIE!!

I’ll continue this tomorrow. I have to get ready for our New Year’s Eve party.

I really enjoyed our discussion, and I sincerely wish you all the best throughout the year.

Eddie

Congressional numbers below zero.

Congratulations, you made my coffee come out of my nose.

Eddie, let’s just be clear when we all “continue this tomorrow” that no one called you “a sexist”. Schooled in “sexist comments” that are subtle, perhaps people not even realizing they are sexist comments, yes, we are learned in that.

@49 – Uppity, it’s about time I returned the favor!

@50 – Exactly! Eddie, one sexist comment does not a sexist make. Sometimes things don’t always come out the way we mean them to. Have a happy New Year’s Eve!

Whew. Made it home unscathed by the partiers in Times Square. Time to lie down for a little while. Later, all.

I’m lying back watching the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen after driving the gruesome male to his friend’s place. He’s set for the night and fortunately I know all his friends, so he’s safe. He says he’ll be home tonight, however I know better. In the interim, I’ve had dinner, the cats and dog are well fed, and I’ve got Sean Connery on the DVD. 5 hours to the New Year, and I hope it’s a better year for us all – you too Eddie.

Oh, btw Eddie if you think it’s bad here, do not visit Uppity’s place.

LOL HT!

Calm down Eddie. You’re being too emotional. You’re too senstivie. Don’t be hysterical. There there, there’s no need to be upset. I’m going out with the girls. I promise to be back early. Here. Iron my shirt.

Tee-hee. There are any number of male associates here, Eddie. They will most certainly not rescue you in this circumstance.

Goodness, and Fuzzy, DYB and Fredster haven’t even shown up yet. Uppity, you are priceless as usual.

HT: Too many football games on the teevee right now.

BTW: from a comment you made over at Uppity’s. I’ve ordered a new teevee. It’s a 52″ LED/LCD, with internet connections, and I’m also going to add wireless to it so I can also mount it on the hood of my truck. I’ll place a camera on the back side of the teevee thus providing me with a small picture-in-picture of the traffic around me so I can drive safely. ;-) I’ll have the sound connected to the 8 speaker system in the truck and will also get a set of wipers for the teevee and try to synch them with the ones on the truck.

Uppity: Here. Iron my shirt.

Gimme the damned shirt. I’ll iron it while watching the game. However I am not responsible for any burns on the shirt due to leaving the iron on while being in a state of euphoria at touchdowns for the right team. ;-)

OMG. We just had to go to the shed and pull out every string of lights we have to put all over the yard. It is going to be 17 to 24 here tonight. Unbelievable. We did some sheets last night but it wasn’t enough. Our leaves on our citrus are turning a little crispy. We lost a couple of succulents. We gathered up the cactus specimens we could that are in pots and moved them under the porch. Oh our beautiful yard.

Wishing all here health, love, and inner peace in the New Year. A special thanks to MadamaB for the inspiration, MB, Chat and BlueLyon for your time, energy, and wisdom, and thanks to all the frequent commenters who make this a place not only for information but a real emotional home.

With love and thanks,
BBS

la: Are you all in AZ or NM? I saw a bit on TWC that in some parts they were facing blizzard conditions. Do you have any spot lights you can try to put out and then cover the plants?

Thanks, BBS! To you as well!

LTD – Holy Moly! Stay warm, my friend!

Fredster after that video you made of me meeting up with a third waver, I’ll iron YOUR shirt.

I’m in AZ at 2000 feet. It has stopped raining so now I think it is even worse. It is like Chat sat yesterday. The rain can be a protector. We had to go get all the lettuce out of the garden. We took the spots out of my workshop, Fredster. We look like a freaking used car lot. :)

UW: You flatter me way too much! I just wish I hadn’t deleted the damned thing.

Welcome home, MB. Did you have a good vaca?

la@63: Had a bad one in nola one time and not enough room in the shop for all of the plants. I left the heartier bigger plants on the back patio and covered with sheets and then put the spot on them and they survived. One of them was the mutant aloe plant. That thing was so huge I couldn’t even pick it up!

Wow. It AZ for the blizzard for 5000 feet and above. Insane. Guess there will be snow on the mountains when we get up.

http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/weather/blizzard-warning-se-ariz-apx-12302010

Eddie: As for history being made by electing an African American (in part), that is ignoring history being made by a descendant of Native Americans (in part) — according to genealogists who have researched HRC’s mother’s French Canadian foremothers.

But you didn’t hear about that. Or, of course, about how historic it would be to elect a woman (entirely). . . .

Thanks, BBS! Happy New Year to you.

@65 – Thanks, LTD! Yes, I did, although like Pat, we had to change our plans because of the massive storm here. (There are still huge piles of snow on the ground and mountains of trash on the sidewalks – and it’s been 6 days!) We ended up going on Saturday instead of Sunday, and missed out on a couple of friend get-togethers. :-(

Wow – 2 hours 40 minutes till 1/1/11! Didn’t the Mayans say something about that date? If not, they should have!

I think that the Mayan date is 12/21/12or something like that. Civilization will collapse after the next presidential elections.
http://www.adishakti.org/mayan_end_times_prophecy_12-21-2012.htm

@71 – That seems about right.

Civilization will collapse after the next presidential elections.

Will we still have football?

la@67: do you have a good camera you can take some pics with for the rest of us?

WOW! I hope HBO runs this again when there’s *not* a ton of football games on:

Bette Midler performs in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace, accompanied by singing trio the Staggering Harlettes, the dancing Caesar Salad Girls and a 13-piece band. Songs include “The Rose”; “Wind Beneath My Wings”; “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”; and “From a Distance.”

@73: Hmmm. If there’s no football, then civilization has indeed collapsed.

@74 What. Before and after of our yard? Or snow on the mountains in the desert? :) I’ll give a pic a try.

Fare thee well, 2010. Happy 2011 to everyone!

la: Oh snow on the mtns!

chat: If we don’t have football, let the Goth/Visigoths take over.

Happy New Year Beata! We just lit all our candles and opened up a Pinot Noir from Germany for me and a Mascot from Italy for Pen! We don’t go out anymore for NYEve. Too many drunks. :)

Sorry meant Muscat.

A Happy New Year to all! I guess I’ll have to drink alone since there’s no one with me so I’ll have some Malibu rum and pineapple juice. Never opened it from Christmas.

@79: Perhaps the goths v. the visigoths in a bowl game?

Chat@83: Cool! With those two groups, no judge or ref would dare to throw a flag!

Happy almost New Year! Am finally done with tomorrow’s surprise. Check out the new post at 12:01 am on 1/1/11!

We will be drinking some single-malt shortly, watching a million crazy people party outside in Times Square. Ah, indoor bathrooms.

Happy New Year, Fredster! I want you to know that I think you are very special – and not in a Church Lady way. :)

Happy New Year, La, Penny, HT, Chat, and MB! Also DYB, wherever you are! And all Widdershins!

Does tomorrow surprise involve chocolate and party hats?

@87 – Not saying a word!

And where is Fuzzy! Happy NY wherever you are, you big redheaded bear, you!

Happy New Years to all! The big orange is getting ready to drop down in Coconut Grove. One of my friends just called to say that the big peach is ready to drop in Hotlanta. 2010 is almost in the books.

@88: Well, then I will just have to stay up and wait, huh?

Happy New Year to Fuzzy and Pat!

We are having a weird New Year’s Eve thunderstorm. Next it will probably be another earthquake. My kitten is going bonkers.

Happy New Year! The ball has dropped and 2010 has been kicked to the curb! Here’s to a new beginning for all of us!

Beata@86: Well thank you so much! I feel the same way about you and also all of our friends here at TW.

And hey y’all I can watch the ball drop at 11:00 our time and then do it again an hour later here on central time.

And la-t-da can do it again another hr later (I think).

I hope they have midnight in the Quarter on one of the local nola tv websites. They have the New Year baby drop on the Jax bldg by Jackson Square in the Quarter and then fireworks on barges in the river.

Well they do have a cam in the Fr. Quarter from the balcony of Arnauds Restaurant on one channel.

2 more hours until I can say Happy New Year, Fredster!

Everyone – go to our new URL and check out our New Year’s Surprise!

Just woke up – Happy new year to all, with the exception of La who has qanother two hours to go. BTW La, I live north of the 49th, as you know a few thousand miles north of you – the weather today 50 degrees. It’s bleeping odd.

Fredster, do not blame me for your proflicate spending on a TV. I don’t have cable or satellite. My only TV is 22 years old, and it’s utilized for watching movies. Much as I love you, your expenditure is not my fault.

I’m back!!
My brain is healed from the abuse I took yesterday.
Time heals all wounds.

UPPITY: I’m hurt that you also asked Fredster to iron your shirt. I thought I was special.

Happy New Year Eddie!
